Water, Easy Health Change

We have all heard the saying, “You are what you eat.” How about a slight twist, “You are what you DRINK.” The human body is made up of over 90% water. Your blood that transports nutrients is 82% water; your muscles that move your body are 75% water; your lungs that provide oxygen to your body are 90% water; your brain the central control center of your body is 76% water; guess what even your bones are 25% water. It appears there is no question to the importance of water to your body.

We see that water is a large part of function of the body and did you know that many health issues are influenced by water. Dr. F. Batmanghelidh has pioneered many studies on how water’s affect on disease. His research terms the phrase Unintentional Chronic Dehydration (UCD), where he demonstrates that dehydration produces pain and many degenerative diseases that can be prevented and even treated by increasing water intake on a regular basis. Personally I never get a headache if I stay hydrated, and I sleep a lot better too. Is that great news? Just keep yourself hydrated with good clean water, but wait there is more good news about water.

Water Naturally Detoxifies

Our bodies detoxify all day long by eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph glands, and skin. When you are properly hydrated this process happens naturally. Let yourself get dehydrated and this detoxing process slows and your body begins to collect toxins. Now wait, we are not drinking bottles with skull and cross-bones stickers on them! Are we!? We may just be missing the warning labels.

Our local water treatment plant publishes a yearly report of water quality. In this report the different levels of each pollutant is listed, ie. lead, copper, organic compounds, etc. Here is a statement that caught my attention.

You may be more vulnerable than the general population to certain microbial contaminates… in drinking water. Infants, some elderly or immunocompromised persons, such as those undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, those who have undergone organ transplants, those who are undergoing treatment with steroids and people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders can be particularly at risk from infections.

You should seek advice about drinking water from your physician or health care provider. – www.fortworthgov.org/water

Did you get that! They are telling you to ask your doctor before you drink the water!!! I think we get the idea that our public water supply may have issues. And we are not even talking about the chlorine, fluoride and heavy metals in the drinking water.

What Can We Do?

Start drinking clean water today, this is one of the biggest and easiest health changes you can make. There is no question the body needs water, so make it the best you can. Here are three levels to get you going.

  1. A quick way to get some quality water is to buy it. The best bottled water I have seen in the stores is Primo. This water is cleaned using reverse osmosis and then restructured using minerals. Available in 3 and 5 gallon jugs.
  2. Many people have a reverse osmosis water system in their home already. This type of water is too clean because the minerals have been removed. To fix the water look into a restructuring system to add after your current system, or add 1/4 teaspoon of Himalayan salt per gallon and store in the fridge.
  3. Get a good water filter system for your home, see; A Guide To Water Filter Systems, Big Berkey Water Filter System *Review*.

How Much Water

Did you know that for your body to function with the best performance, you need to drink half your body weight in ounces daily. So if your weight is say 150 lbs. you need to drink 75 oz. of water a day. Keep in mind that you need to sip this water all day long, not drink 1/3 at each meal. And no you will not be hitting the restroom all day long. When you drink a swallow of water every 15 mins. or so the body puts the water to use and does not pass it out as quickly as it does when you drink large amounts of water all at once.

And NO! Coffee, tea, soda, sports drinks, and beer does not count as part of your daily quota of water.

Join me in a drink and you maybe surprised what issues you loose.

  1. Hi! This is my first visit to your blog! We are a team of
volunteers and starting a new project in a community in the same niche.
Your blog provided us valuable information to work on.

You have done a marvellous job!

  2. With the Big Berkeley water filter, that only does the water that you are drinking. Do you do anything separately for your bath water/other household water?

    • We do use a filter system for our shower, it gets rid of chlorine, dirt, and odors. The system is called “Sprite”. You can look online for them or purchase at Lowe’s Home Improvement (that’s where we purchase ours). They have everything from shower heads with filters in them to a filter attachment that can be used with any shower head, you simply replace the filter cartridge about every 6 months. This is a relatively inexpensive way to go compared to “whole house” water filter systems, etc.

If you’re looking for something that filters at a higher rate you’ll have to do some research and pay the higher price.

      • Thanks so much for the information! I guess the “Sprite” system doesn’t get the fluoride out?

        • No the “Sprite” system does not remove fluoride. Your skin does absorb some water while showering, but you’re not drinking the water so it is minimized. Again to remove more from the water you will have to research different systems, if there are any out there.
