What Salts Are Best?

So, we have seen that “table” salt is a poison, now I am concerned about the salt I use. Don’t be it is very easy to find a healthy salt. Lets take a look at some of the most common ones.

Sea Salt

A popular salt that I have used in the past and that has been growing in availability is Sea Salt, which, can be found in most markets. Sea Salt is formed from the evaporation of man made pools usually near the coastline. The issue with Sea Salt is that sea water is used in its production and as we know many of our oceans are polluted with mercury, lead, and various chemicals. Based on the unknown quality of the sea water used to make different Sea Salts I would have to give it a thumbs down.

Celtic Sea Salt

Celtic Sea Salt is processed by hand from sea water. Moisture content of this salt is much higher and reduces the concentration of sodium chloride, which I am all for, (to understand more about sodium chloride see the article, Do I Need Salt? Life or Death?) Because this salt is processed from sea water in one of the most densely populated areas of Europe, it raises the issue that all sea salt deals with, the quality of the sea water that is used as the source of the salt. Personally, we give it a thumbs down, because of the possible pollution levels of the sea water source.

Real Salt

Real Salt can easily become your “table” salt replacement. It does not require any special prep before use as it is already in a small crystal size that will work in most salt shakers. Real Salt is a natural unrefined sea salt harvested from an ancient ocean bed in Central Utah. Very little processing is involved in its mining, leaving the natural minerals and elements intact in the salt. Being the most popular salt sold in America’s health food stores it is easy to find and not overly expensive. We at CookingGodsWay.com give it a thumbs up for use as a replacement of “table” salt if you can’t afford Himalayan Salt.

Himalayan Salt

Himalayan Salt is hand mined from areas in Pakistan and contains the highest mineral and trace element composition of any salt in the world, in the same proportions as the 84 elements of the human body. This salt is very unique in that it is a living crystal and gives off vibrational energy at the same frequency as the human body does. When viewed under a microscope it is a perfect crystalline structure. Himalayan Salt is about the most expensive of all the salts and adds to foods nicely. According to Dr. Mercola it regulates the water content of the body, promotes healthy pH, blood sugar levels, and reduces signs of aging. We give Himalayan Salt two thumbs up and would recommend it. Dr. Mercola has his own brand which is very affordable, (see the link below).
