The Ins and Outs of CBD Oil

CBD oil is making the rounds and is all the buzz in the natural health and beauty realm, and it has even been featured in food magazines.  There is talk that this oil is the greatest item for us since the wheel. Hopefully this information can help to give you a more balanced view of CBD oil.

Is CBD Oil from Cannabis, Hemp or Marijuana?

Somehow there is a common misconception that all CBD Oil sold today is from the Marijuana plant and you can get high by using it or fail a drug test. Thankfully that is not the truth with Hemp CBD Oil. CBD Oil that is extracted from the Hemp plant, by Federal Law, must contain less than 0.3% THC (the compound that causes one to get high), we are talking about a third of one percent. For comparison the Marijuana plant contains 50-60% THC.

Good luck getting high on Hemp CBD Oil, it will just not happen.

Quality CBD Hemp Oil will also not trip a drug test, we will talk more about this later.

  • Hemp CBD Oil contains less than 0.3% THC by Federal Law.
  • THC is the compound in Marijuana that gets you high.
  • Can’t get high on Hemp oil as it contains only trace amounts of THC.
  • Will not fail drug test as it is too low an amount to show up.
  • Hemp and Marijuana are different plants

History Of Hemp

Hemp is one of earliest known cultivated plants, used and farmed for thousands of years, and has been used medicinally for over 4,000 years. Since the stalks of the hemp plant are so woody and tough they were used to make rope, canvas for sailing ships, and paper. A neat historical idea is that the word “canvas” is derived from the word cannabis. Since hemp is 3 times stronger than cotton and resistant to seawater you can see why it was commonly used on sailing ships. Levi Strauss made his original Levi’s jeans from hemp cloth.

  • Hemp one of oldest cultivated plants, thousands of years.
  • Hemp is 3 times stronger than cotton and naturally rot resistant.
  • Used for sail cloth, rope and industrial uses.
  • Levis Strauss’s original jeans made from hemp.
  • Before prohibition in 1937, cannabis (Hemp), 3 most prescribed medicinal agent for 60+ years.

Are there safety issues with Hemp derived CBD?

The World Health Organization (WHO) says only positive things about hemp and the World Anti-Doping agency (WADA) for athletes agrees.

  • World health Organization (WHO):
    • NO abuse or dependence potential
    • NO evidence of risk with PURE CBD.
  • World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)
    • NOT a banned substance for athletes.

What is CBD Oil and How Does It Work?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the naturally occurring, non-psychoactive, elements found in hemp. CBD oil is made by extracting resin from the stalks of hemp or cannabis flowers. It is then typically diluted with a carrier oil such as coconut or olive oil.

There have been over 3,000 clinical studies done on CBD oil and its benefits.

A newly discovered system in the human body known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is able to use components of the CDB oil to help the body achieve Homeostasis. When homeostasis is achieved in the body all parts function in a balanced manner, complementing each other. The ECS is made up of receptors that are found in the brain, central nervous system, organs, glands, and cells within the body.

The balance that the ECS maintains between tissues, organs, and cells allows the body’s systems to perform at peak performance. When we are healthy and in balance the body naturally produces cannabinoids, which the cannabinoid receptors can use to help achieve homeostasis. These cannabinoid receptors are responsible for regulating the following bodily functions:

  • Memory
  • Movement
  • Pain Perception
  • Temperature Control
  • Mood
  • Sleep
  • Energy
  • Nerve and brain tissue
  • Immune System
  • Appetite and hunger
  • Metabolism

If the ECS is weak, from stress, lack of rest, poor nutrition, etc., cannabinoids can help the receptors function at better levels. CBD oil can help cells to connect with the central nervous system and organs to create better balance in the body.

Endocannabinoid Deficiency

A deficiency in the ECS is now being considered as a part of many hard-to-treat disease states:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic Migraine
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Possible Health Benefits

CBD can be popular for people looking for more natural relief from pain and other ailments. Since cannabinoids interact directly with the body through the central nervous system and its major bodily function systems, CBD has a variety of uses. Here are some of the common general areas that CBD oil has seen success in.

  • Chronic pain
  • Reducing cancer-related symptoms
  • Improving heart health
  • Blood Sugar Levels
  • Cholesterol Levels
  • Immune System Support
  • Sleep issues
  • Irritability
  • Normal/Stable Mood
  • Stress/Nervousness
  • Treating acne and other skin conditions
  • Support joint function
  • Treating inflammation
  • Neutralizing free radicals

Is All CBD Oil Created Equal?

Since the production of Hemp oil is not regulated you will have to ask a few questions to check its quality.

  • Best Hemp oil is certified by 3rd party lab.
  • Certified to be below 0.3% THC
  • Certified to be organic.

Check that a real 3rd party lab is confirming the key points stated above. Some hemp oil makers try to fake the certifications.

Organic

When looking for CBD oil it is important to make sure that the oil is organic, and I would recommend grown in the USA as well. It is extremely important that the CBD Oil is organic!

  • Hemp CBD oil must be organic as the hemp plant absorbs whatever is in the soil (contaminates and all).
  • 90% of hemp oil is imported from China and Asia.
  • Best hemp oil is grown and processed in the USA.

Full Spectrum Hemp CBD Oil

Full Spectrum = The Whole Plant

The best CBD oil is full spectrum, made from the whole hemp plant.

  • Full Spectrum Hemp CDB oil is balanced as it contains all parts of the hemp plant.
  • Has all the cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, vitamins, minerals, omegas, and proteins.
  • Full Spectrum CBD oil has 400 active compounds.
  • These compounds complement each other providing an entourage effect.

Often to save cost some CBD oil is made from extracts, isolates, or even just the seeds. These cbd oils while less expensive, are missing many of the active compounds that provide a balanced product.

Oil Based vs Water Based

The simple reality is that regardless of how high-quality an oil-based supplement is, if your body can’t absorb the oil, your body can’t use it. It’s not what you take that matters, but rather what your body can absorb. Let’s take a look at the different types of CBD Oil and how they are processed.

Oil-based CBD —
After the CBD oil is extracted, which is ideally by a CO2 process so no residual compounds are left behind, the CBD oil is often mixed with an oil such as olive oil so it can be used by the body.

  • Oil Based CBD must be digested and can take 2 to 6 hours to enter the blood stream.
  • Oil Based CBD provides 6% to 15% of the available cannabinoids to the blood.

Water-based CBD —
This type of CBD oil has been processed so that the body does not have to digest it for the body to use it. Since we are made up of a large percent of water this is key.

  • Water Based CBD can be absorbed at any cells of the body and can enter the blood stream as quickly as 15 mins.
  • Water Based CBD provides up to 94% of the available cannabinoids to the blood.

Wow! It sure seems like water-based CBD Oil is where it’s at!

Quick Guide: What To Look For When Buying CBD Oil

Keep in mind when buying CBD oil that there is no regulation on how CBD oil is made. You will have to do your own homework to make sure you are getting a quality product. The key points for the best CDB oils to keep in mind are:

  • Certified Organic
  • Natural Extraction, usually CO2
  • Full Spectrum, made from the whole hemp plant
  • Made from Hemp grown in the USA
  • Water Based for faster and higher absorption
  • THC free
