Avoiding the Flu and Cold Season!

The change of Seasons is upon us. As we head indoors we get less sun and exercise, slowly the immune systems get weaker. Then cold and flu season pops up at your door. Here is what you can do to keep that immune system strong and cheat the sick season.

Why is it important to keep the immune system strong? Well that is easy to understand when you realize that 80% of your immune system is in your intestinal track. Kinda makes sense why they used to preach you are what you eat.

Many people jump for the pro-biotic supplements, which is a good start. These supplements help to boot the good flora in your gut. But they are not cheap and think about this, the good organisms are dormant when you take the pill and my questions is, “how far do they go into my system before they wake up?”

Raw milk contains many pro-biotics right from the cow. It is a raw food. If you can get raw milk drink a couple of glasses daily. Raw Milk – 8 Reasons It Is “The Perfect Food”

Personally I turn to foods that are rich in pro-biotic counts. Yup, there are foods you can eat instead of taking some pill. Yogurt is one of the easiest and most friendly to the taste buds. Look for one that has live cultures with fun names like, lactobacillus acidophilus. Stay away from sweet yogurts the sugar just helps to cause inflammation. If you have to have some sweet taste add a little stevia. Try to eat some yogurt daily. Homemade Yogurt the Easy Way

There are many foods you can make at home so you can have some pro-biotics with every meal, some are so easy even a guy could do it. Being a guy I can crack on myself. What are some of these foods; yogurt, sauerkraut, salsa, pickles, carrots, bean dips, not to mention all the condiments that can be “lacto-fermented”, you will have something for most meals, more on this in a minute. So you can see with most vegetables being able to be turned pro-biotic friendly all tastes can be met.

Lacto-fermenting is the process of changing sugars and starches in the vegetables and fruits to lactic acid by the naturally occurring lactic acid producing bacteria. This lactobacilli is present on all living things especially the fruits and vegetables as they are often near the ground. What does all this mean? Your food will be more nutritious and easier to digest and full of immune booting pro-biotics.

There are many lacto-fermented recipes on Cooking God’s Way that you can use to start making your own great pro-biotic rich foods. If you are in need of some great tools to make your lacto-fermentation easier, take a look at our lacto-fermenting kit, Shannon uses these kits for all of her fermented foods.

We understand at Cooking God’s Way how important these pro-biotics are. To learn how to make these probiotic-rich lacto-fermented foods, checkout our Lacto-fermenting eCourse. In the 11 Lesson eCourse we will cover the why, history and how-to for many common foods I mentioned earlier.

I hope you see how easy it can be to get your immune boosting pro-biotics into your system.
